Jentic Tech Talk

The newsletter for teams building AI that actually ships. Covering APIs, AI agents, open standards, and enterprise architecture.

Introducing our Tech Talk Newsletter

AI agents are changing how enterprise software works. But the conversation is stuck on models and prompts, not on the APIs, workflows, and standards that actually connect agents to real systems.

Tech Talk is written by Frank Kilcommins (principal author of the Arazzo Specification, Head of Enterprise Architecture) and Erik Wilde (OpenAPI Initiative Ambassador, Head of Enterprise Strategy). Each issue covers open standards, API governance, orchestration patterns, and what it actually takes to move agents from pilot to production, plus Jentic product updates.

Welcome to the first issue.

EVENT

OpenAPI Summit at DeveloperWeek San Jose 2026

At Jentic, we're committed to open standards. We use all current OpenAPI Initiative standards in our platform: OpenAPI itself, Arazzo for workflows, and Overlay for patching descriptions. I've been organizing OAI events around the globe for the last three years as an OpenAPI Initiative Ambassador, and the next stop is DeveloperWeek 2026 in San Jose, February 18-20. Want to join us? Get in touch, if you'd like a complimentary pass.

OPEN SOURCE

Jentic Releases OpenAPI Tools for Python

One of the main values of standards is the creation of tooling ecosystems. Until now, there has been no widely adopted general-purpose OpenAPI parsing library for Python. As part of our work building tools, we've now built and published an open source library that anyone can use for OpenAPI tooling. Vladimír Gorej, a well-known developer in the OpenAPI space, has been the driving force behind it.

ARCHITECTURESTRATEGY

Why Most APIs Fail in AI Systems (and How to Fix It)

Most APIs ship OpenAPI documents, yet still fail when consumed by AI systems because their design forces developers to fill in the gaps. Machines don't have that skill. I wrote a piece for The New Stack on what breaks, why it breaks, and how improving API AI‑readiness, usability, and discoverability makes successful production outcomes far more likely.

OPEN STANDARDS

Overlay 1.1 Specification Released

Overlay 1.1 is out and the upgrade is simple. Bump the version to 1.1.0, then take advantage of the new copy action so you can reuse elements from the source OpenAPI document instead of duplicating them. 1.1 also adds a description field, improves update/delete on primitive values, and aligns JSONPath usage with RFC 9535 for better interoperability. There's also a recommended .overlay.yaml|json naming convention to improve tooling.
